The Journey To Your Heart
We can’t really call these times “unprecedented” anymore, for now there have been many days that came before today that were also “unprecedented.” Does that mean it’s also become trite to call today another “new normal?”, because apparently the “new normal” means just that – that every day brings us yet something new to get used to.
Apart from what we call these times, the question is, “What can we do to maintain our equilibrium at a time like this?”
Apart from what we call these times, the question is, “What can we do to maintain our equilibrium at a time like this?”
We do the best we can.
And, it’ll help if we also assume that those around us are also doing the best they can.
Yet so many past wounds and hurts can get in the way. We long for connection and are forced to find new ways of doing that. We each need to be seen, felt, heard and understood.
And then there’s our self talk. That’s one of the biggest, most harsh ways we debilitate ourselves. It’s the inner voice that’s stopping us from going for our dreams, or changing our dream (as many of us need to do now), or even knowing what that might be.
I’ve been moved by the work of Brené Brown for some time. Clearly, she has pointed us to things we already know and highlighted the urgency of values including our need to connect, the importance of vulnerability, and now her book about that inner voice, Talk to Yourself Like You’d Talk to Someone You Love: Strategies for Raising Shame Resilient Children.”
Guess what? This isn’t just for raising your children!
This is for ALL of us!
Why not talk to yourself like you are your best friend, someone you love dearly?
The risk of not doing this is that our self talk can talk us out of what we long to do. Or even block us from knowing what that is.
I’d like to suggest that we all practice connecting more deeply with ourselves by asking,“What can I do, feel or BE right now that reflects my best and highest self”
And then, live in a way that is in harmony with your answers to that question.
