Live an Empowered Life
What do we do with this thing called life?
I used to be tongue-tied when trying to answer that question! I mean, as a kid and young adult, I really didn’t know what to do with all the emotions swimming inside of me, and didn’t know how to “be.”
I finally changed the question!
The question became: “Who’s the ‘me’ I want to BE, especially when someone, or life, challenges me?”
I invite you to ask yourself that question!
The challenge then becomes to live your life in a way that is harmony with your answer to that question.
If that’s been difficult, if you get triggered, and later say, “Ohhhhh noooooo. I did it again. I hate when I do that!”, have compassion for yourself. And there are reasons why it may be difficult.
For instance, how you were treated or talked to as a child created a combination of empowering beliefs and limiting beliefs. Both are often from messages that were spoken, and also unspoken messages that were implied by how you were treated.
As a young child, we are all born a blank slate, a tabula rasa. We don’t yet know how others or the world will treat us.
Even the smallest action from siblings, parents, relatives, teachers, neighbors, etc., have an impact and inform us, right or wrong, that this is what to expect, from others and from life.
These perceived messages, true or not, create such strong neural pathways because they’re imprinted on that blank slate at such an early time in life. And then, after years and then decades of repetition, those messages and those patterns have become really strong.
This is great if the imprints and patterns are uplifting, with messages like:
Way to go!
That was great!
You can do ANYthing you want!
We believe in you!
You deserve everything you want.
But, if those early imprints (spoken or implied) have messages like:
Don’t bother.
That was a mess.
You can’t do that!
Who do you think you are?
You don’t deserve that!
These messages can stop you from going for what you want, or going for it but not fully believing you can do it or that you deserve it, and may even stop you from knowing what you want.
If any of this sounds familiar to you, I want you to know that no matter WHO you are, you DO deserve to know what you want, that what you want DOES matter, that this is in you to do, or you wouldn’t have had the thought to do it, and — there’s a good reason you’ve been holding yourself back.
In my work with students and clients, I look at their Emotional Mastery Blueprint (the pie chart of their EQ Quiz results), and can see what’s been holding them back from shining their light and being all that they can be.
First, honor the fact that those old patterns were there to protect you when you were young. Then those patterns became habits and stayed in place. Years and decades later, those patterns have gotten so strong and jump to the forefront, even when they no longer serve you.
It’s time to stop that! Notice those voices in your head. Your self talk is critical to the quality of your relationships and your lives. Those voices can support you, and they can hold you back.
If there’s been a voice in your head that’s holding you back, it’s time for a new story!
It’s time to know this: you DO have a choice in your emotions. You DO have a choice in how you respond when that old button or old trigger gets ignited. You DO have a choice in your emotional well-being.
It’s time to make empowering choices and create the story and the life that you were born to live.
When you align your thoughts and feelings, you can more easily determine the decisions and actions you want to take in every moment. When all three, your thoughts, feelings and your actions are aligned, it’s easier to know what your best next step is and you can take inspired action towards what you want and towards being that person you want to be, in every moment, no matter what life throws at you.
We can’t stop that inner voice. However, we can replace that nasty voice in our head repeating those old, limiting beliefs, with a new, empowering voice.
This is the Emotional Mastery Journey.
It’s not always so easy to do on your own. If you’d like support seeing this clearly and replacing an old story and limiting beliefs with a new story and empowering beliefs, accept my gift, The Emotional Mastery Toolkit.
