Have you ever wondered what it truly means to be a “conscious” leader? It’s a term that has evolved over time, and its definition has expanded beyond simply being awake and alive. In today’s context, “conscious” leadership encompasses qualities like being aware, mindful, intentional, concerned, and sensitive to others’ reactions.
So, what does it take to become a “conscious” leader?, and is it possible that one can grow into this?
The answer to that question is a journey that can’t be condensed in a single blog, article or video. That’s why I’ve decided to break it down into multiple parts.
This first installment is an overview.
To embark on this journey, we need to start with kindness and caring. We must care about ourselves, the people around us, our unique gifts, the service we provide and the people we’re meant to serve. We must also be conscious of how we come across to others, how our words and actions impact them, and the well-being of our planet and all its inhabitants.
Okay; that’s a bit much! Let’s start small.
Stay with me as we explore these initial steps together.
Imagine a situation when someone says or does something that challenges you.
This moment isn’t just a fork in the road; it’s a profound opportunity to ask yourself a pivotal question, one that I consider my North Star:
“Who’s the me I want to be —
especially when life challenges me?”
This question serves as a guiding light for living consciously and deliberately in alignment with your ideals. It requires that you pay close attention to how you respond in crucial moments.
However, this isn’t always easy. As human beings, we tend to fall back on our ingrained habits and patterns, often without even realizing it. The first step toward mindfulness, or becoming “conscious,” is to recognize these patterns as they arise.
Some of these patterns are beneficial, guiding you towards your best and highest self, even in challenging situations. Others, however, may be defensive, pre-emptive, aggressive, or withdrawn, and they may not serve you, others, or the current moment very well.
My Emotional Mastery system is designed to help you identify your patterns, embody 18 of the most common ones, expand your repertoire with more effective patterns, and give you the flexibility to choose the ones that best align with your vision of yourself.
Here’s a sneak peek of what’s to come in this series:
- The Journey: Your North Star (see above!)
- Neuroplasticity: Expand your comfort zone
- Embody the next version of you.
- Empowered to be your authentic self, to be all that you are.
- Evolve into living as your best and highest self, regardless of the circumstances.
